The Vision of Meals By Grace

Our mission is to assist struggling families in Forsyth County by supporting them in their desire to provide healthy nutritious meals for their families. We also seek to bring glory to God and be His hands and feet in our community by providing a loving environment where our families feel supported, respected, and encouraged as they strive to meet the demands of caring for their families.

We seek to embody, Matthew 25: 35-36, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in. I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me." As we help families with their physical needs, we partner with local organizations to teach them ways to elevate themselves out of their current situation grow beyond their circumstances. As resources allow, we plan to grow and multiply the vision in communities across Georgia and the nation at large.

The Children

Meals By Grace partners with local school systems to identify children that are hungry and suffer from "food insecurity". Food insecurity is the politically correct term for the fear and anxiety that come from not knowing where your next meal will be served. In the school systems, the school social workers look for children who have dropping grades, sleep in class, and roam the lunch room asking for food.

When a child is identified, the social worker will make an at home visit to assess the situation. If the social worker feels that the child and family will benefit from Meals By Grace, then we are contacted to add them to our list of families assuming we have capacity. By partnering with the school systems, we have a high degree of confidence and knowledge that the children and families we serve are truly in need and will greatly benefit from weekly meals.

Our Families

Many circumstances will befall you in your lifetime, some of which will have life altering and life interrupting consequences. So it is with our Meals by Grace families. We have families who have experienced death, job loss, serious illness, abandonment and other life events that have put them in situations where the ability to provide regular, healthful and nutritious meals for their children is next to impossible.

We have single moms with cancer, children with serious long term illnesses. We have families that technically are not organic families at all, at least in the naturally born definition of a family; but have taken one another in, offering shelter and care when no other 'family' could be found. These families do not live in another country or half way around the world. They are literally within a few miles of where we live. These families are our neighbors.

What We Do

Meals by Grace meets weekly to create, prepare and deliver a hot nutritious meal and additional food items to our families in need with no, or limited transportation. We also provide a full service Monday through Friday pantry for our community members in need that have some form of transportation. While our hot meals program is focused exclusively on children recommended to us by the Forsyth County School Social Workers, the pantry is open to anyone with a self-declared need.

One unique aspect to Meals By Grace is that we love kids serving kids. Therefore, the first Saturday of every month, we let the children of our volunteers make the food for our families. It’s an incredibly fun time and teaches our kids the value of serving other that may have less.

We LOVE our volunteers! Meals By Grace is predominantly run and supported by community volunteers. We have weekly opportunities to prepare food, stock shelves, and most importantly deliver to our families. We openly welcome children and adults. Meals By Grace is a great family event. We also welcome groups, clubs, and associations of every kind.

One thing you'll notice right away when you come is the wide and culturally diverse mix of our volunteers. We have volunteers of every age, race and culture. We believe that we can all rally around the common goal of helping our community's children and being the hands and feet to those in need.
