I’ve been a fan of 104.7 the FISH and Christian Music for many years. It all started when a friend of mine asked why I DIDN’T listen to it – after hearing me out she simply said, “Well, I promise you it will bless your life in ways you cannot imagine, and who deserves a daily blessing more?…” Day after day as I got in the car and reached for the radio that kept coming back to mind… and I decided, YES, who deserves a blessing more (or needs one???). So I switched. Now I’ll be honest, my iPod gym mix, or yoga mix, or “favorites” are quite an eclectic mix of oldies, country (Dixie Chicks, Shania), Christian, jazzercize (yes, I’m that old!) and other songs I love, but when I’m in the car, unless the Braves are playing
I’m praying and praising with my FISH tunes.
Now, I said ALL that to say this: NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING has changed my life so much unless it was my five readings of Rick Warren’s “Purpose Driven Life”. I have a handful of songs whose lyrics have become prayers that though I was (and still am) terrified to pray – how could I not be? I am convinced God heard those prayers… The one that started it all is the subject of today’s post: MeryMe’s “Bring the Rain”. Below are the words that altered life in 2010…
‘Bring me joy, Bring me Peace, Bring the chance to be free, Bring me ANYTHING that brings You glory. And I know there’ll be days when this life brings me pain, but if that’s what it takes to praise you – Jesus bring the rain…’ and rain it did – torrential floods that washed away a lifetime and left us standing amid the mud and ashes of a life in many ways mis-spent. But I praise him because it was only then that I truly SAW beyond my own “borders”. Meals by Grace is here today because in the midst of this long season of storms there have been angels sent to us on a daily basis to sustain us and pattern for us the way to loving others out there drowning in their own storms. Today I challenge you, if you are seeking to glorify God with your life – dare to pray the same prayer, that you are willing to let him have it all, if that’s what it takes… I am deeply grateful that He did not take it all, but if He had (or does) I pray for his mercy, grace and strength to still sing, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty”.
