Georgia Mountain Food Bank ROCKS!!!

I was struggling with our summer meals program cost to cover 2 meals a day, 5 days a week, for our 70+ kids for the 8 weeks of summer… sounds like one of those horrible Math word problems I used to whimper through about the train leaving and coming and passing and aaarrrrgggghhhh!!!! Sorry, memories!!! Anyway, I was trying to figure out how we could do it. We’ve been blessed with several food items in recent donations that will work, and we’ve ordered several things from the Atlanta Community Food Bank to add to the mix, but we were still missing the shelf-stable milk – and it “ain’t” cheap! Folks, we need a lot of it to cover that math equation… so I emailed my favorite Georgia Mountain Food Bank Director, Kay (salt of the earth, that lady) to ask her if she could get it, and what the cost would be to see if I could swing it! She offered to donate it to us – that’s right folks, she offered to GIVE us the milk we need to be sure those kids have healthy breakfasts, lunches, and snacks every day!!! What a gift. I just couldn’t breathe when I read her offer – makes me fall to my knees I tell you – when I say, “God provides” don’t you doubt it for a minute – he ALWAYS does. Thanks, Kay – you are the best, biggest hearted, country-grown angel I know! What a lady!!! And thanks to EVERYONE at the GMFB who greet us with such joy and love every time we go pick up – yesterday’s pick up was eggs and fresh (gi-normous) sweet potatoes… Oh and thanks, Liz, for the 100 ways to fix sweet potatoes link ;-) Uh, Chef Bill………can we talk?
