Saturday was SUCH a busy day! Several of us met at GC to trim and chop the 250 (not a typo) yes, 250lbs. of fresh pineapple and other fruit donated to Meals by Grace by Edible Arrangements. We popped our extra stored casseroles in the oven to bake while we worked and by 4:00pm were ready to go deliver them. At 3:00pm Steve headed to the Post Office Annex on Hwy 9 to claim our share of the NALC Food Drive bounty. The United Way (thanks to Melissa Corliss for her masterful oversight) chose this year’s recipients and administrated the pickups from the two Forsyth County Post Office locations. It was a long hard day, filled with many ups and downs but we are deeply thankful to the community for their overwhelming generosity! This coming Sunday will require many hands in the pantry (and Jacob says in the parking lot as well) to sort and process the cans, bottles, and boxes of foods donated. If you come to help and have rubber gloves you can bring that would help (the heavy weight kind you wear when washing dishes). Some folks put out bags with glass jars of food in them and some have gotten broken so we’ll be needing to sort those out and wash the debris off the other items in the bag.
A huge extra THANK YOU goes out to Rosemarie for working a full day at EA, coming straight to GC and staying until we SENT her home at 6:00pm!!! What a trooper!!! Another huge thank you to Cynthia for taking two full tubs of pineapple home and working tirelessly for two full days processing it – we couldn’t have finished if not for that HUGE headstart!! And (as always) a great big Thank You to Carol, Ben, and Pat for never leaving us stranded in the thick of it, but always coming to our rescue!!! We missed you Isaac!! Extra love and hugs to Liz, Kyle, and Gwenn for their dedication to feeding our hungry families…and to Jacob for never getting flustered! We missed seeing Hannah this week, hope you’re feeling better sweetie!
PS – I probably shouldn’t tell you this, but we have at least one more tub of pineapple to process this coming week
